All about Conditioner 01
The Wild & Precious Conditioner 01 untangles and nourishes hair, leaving it more manageable and silky smooth. This magic is woven thanks to a simple formula of certified organic vegetable and fruit oils. We also add a smidgeon of essential oil in order to give it a lovely, clean smell. Our Conditioner 01 is a simple and highly effective product suitable for all hair types.
How to use Conditioner 01
The best way to use Wild & Precious Conditioner 01 is to (i) wash your hair (a quick plug here for our wonderful Shampoo/Skin Wash 01, which is suitable for all hair types and made from wild harvested soapwort roots), (ii) put a small amount of Conditioner 01 in the palm of your hand and apply to hair, (iii) massage the conditioner into your scalp and leave for a minute or two, and (iv) rinse thoroughly.
Of special note
Our Conditioner 01 includes 3% of something referred to as BTMS (see below for details), an emulsifier, which is accepted for use in certified organic products. The BTMS we use is made from a number of plant-based ingredients one of which is sometimes (but not always) derived from sustainably sourced, certified organic palm oil. The food and cosmetics industries are destroying the environment in their quest for palm oil and we want no part of it! Although we are happy with our supplier of this palm-oil derived ingredient, we are actively looking for an alternative. It isn’t proving easy (the reason palm oil is in such demand is that it has some unique qualities) but eventually we hope to come up with a better option.

About the ingredients
Cetearyl Alcohol and BTMS
Combined together these two ingredients are, in effect, an emulsifying wax which makes hair easier to comb (even when wet), softer, smoother (even when dry) and with less static. There are good alcohols and bad alcohols and cetearyl alcohol is one of the good, fatty alcohols and we use it as an emollient, to enhance texture and to help ‘carry’ the other ingredients. BTMS stands for Behentrimonium Methosulfate and its purpose is to condition the hair and reduce the static.
Baobab seeds (from which the oil is made) contain appreciable amounts of phosphorus, magnesium, zinc, sodium, iron, manganese. It has been found – and this is why we love it - to contain a fatty acid profile where oleic and linoleic are the major unsaturated fatty acids, and palmitic is the major saturated fatty acid. What’s so great about this? Baobab seed oil is hydrating and moisturising.
Geogard 221 is a preservative, which is made from dehydroacetic acid (DHA) and benzyl alcohol (a ‘good’ alcohol). It meets the ECOCERT and COSMOS standards, is NaTrue certified and Soil Association approved, in addition to not being tested on animals.
We use Sodium Bicarbonate (aka baking soda) to control the pH balance and because it has been shown to help protect and buffer the skin.
Orange Peel Essential Oil
Orange Peel Essential Oil has a light, zesty perfume. It is obtained by cold-pressing orange peel (as the name suggests!). What else is there to say? It helps to condition your hair, gives it shine and provides the lovely smell.
Rose Geranium Essential Oil
Rose Geranium Essential Oil is a delightfully aromatic oil that is prized for its anti-bacterial and anti-inflammatory qualities.
How we make our Conditioner Oil 01
We make our Conditioner 01 in a huge, stainless steel vessel using our motorized blender-thingy as otherwise our arms would fall off. Still, it is physical work and takes a full day to make quite a small batch.
Nowadays, manufacturers have become so frightened of litigation that their products come with dire warnings and super cautious advice. We won’t be left out of this! If you swallow this product contact a poison centre or doctor, immediately. Ditto if you splash it in your eye. However, just so you know, the ingredients are all plant based and – in the quantities present – pretty unlikely to cause any health issues. If you get some in your eye the first thing to do (before you start calling the poison centre/doctor) is to bathe the afflicted area with water. If you spill some by accident we advise swearing, as it is too valuable to waste.
